The City’s Pollution Problem
For many years the problem of pollution in big cities has been growing. Most of this pollution is the result of a growing population. More people have meant more factories polluting the air. Air polluting has also been caused by the coal fires used by many families to cook their food. Besides air pollution, water pollution has also increased. Water pollution comes from many sources.
Now, however, people have realized the seriousness of this problem and they are starting to correct it. First, many new laws have passed which control the amount of pollutants① factories may release② into the water and air. Second, families have begun to use propane gas instead of coal to cook their food, thus further reducing air pollution. In addition, these families also enjoy cleaner water as a result of new water treatment facilities③.
In the future an even greater effort is needed to deal with the pollution problem. More controls on industrial pollution will clean up both the rivers and skies. Finally, those laws already in effect④ must be strictly enforced⑤. Doing this would ensure⑥ people a healthier and happier life.
